Jeep Wrangler battery replacement in Dallas–Fort Worth

Wranglers see water crossings, winches, light bars and plenty of days parked between weekend trips, and each of those is hard on a battery. We replace Wrangler batteries for both the JK and JL generations, wherever the Jeep is parked.

Where the battery is on the Wrangler

Under the hood on both generations; on the JL it sits at the right rear of the engine bay. Many JL Wranglers with start-stop also carry a second, small auxiliary battery low behind the front passenger-side wheel well, out of sight with the hood open. eTorque models use a 48-volt battery instead. If yours has an auxiliary battery, the technician checks it during the visit.

AGM and start-stop

On 2018–2023 Wranglers, some trims need AGM. This is for the JL. Most start-stop models use an AGM H6 plus a small auxiliary battery, and models without start-stop usually use an H7; the technician reads the label on your battery to be sure. If yours has auto start-stop, or the battery in it now is labeled AGM, it needs AGM again.

For 2012–2018 Wranglers, a standard battery fits and AGM is an optional upgrade, worth it if the Jeep sits for long stretches, makes a lot of short trips or runs accessories with the engine off.

For 2007–2011 Wranglers, we install the Duralast standard 34. We do not currently offer a Platinum AGM in this size.

Whatever the table says, we replace AGM with AGM: if the battery in your Jeep is labeled AGM, a flooded battery is not a substitute. Read AGM vs standard batteries.

Battery registration

Some late-model Wranglers monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust charging as the battery ages. On those, the new battery may need a reset or registration so the Jeep charges it correctly. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment.

JK or JL?

The Wrangler changed generations for 2018, and both versions were sold that year. JK Wranglers use a group 34 through 2011, when they had the 3.8-liter V6, and an H6 (48) from 2012, when the 3.6-liter arrived. The JL uses an H6 or an H7 (94R): most start-stop trucks take an AGM H6 plus the small auxiliary battery, and trucks without start-stop usually take an H7. Because the sizes overlap, the technician checks the label on your battery or the VIN before we quote.

How the visit works

  • Send the year and model, or the VIN from the dash or your insurance card.
  • We confirm the battery from the VIN, check availability and send the battery price, core charge, labor and tax. The final price is confirmed before dispatch based on availability, taxes and fees.
  • The technician installs the battery where your Jeep is parked.
  • You pay after installation, once the Jeep starts.

My Wrangler sits between weekend trips. How do I keep the battery alive?

Drive it for at least twenty minutes every week or two, or keep it on a battery maintainer while it is parked. Short trips and long sits are both hard on a battery, and radios, lights and alarms keep drawing small amounts of power with the key off.
