2006–2021
Group 51R

Confirmed from your VIN
Our table does not list a battery for these Civic model years: 2026 or newer, and anything before 2006. Rather than guess, the technician confirms the exact battery from your VIN and sends the full price before dispatch.
Send my VINWhere the battery is on the Civic
Under the hood, in the engine bay. Civics through 2021 use the 51R, one of the smaller batteries we carry at about 9.4 inches long and 5.1 inches wide. From 2022 on, Civics use the larger H5 (47).
AGM and start-stop
2022–2025 Civics came with an enhanced flooded battery (EFB), a heavier-duty flooded design for auto start-stop. Type R models came with a standard H5. Replace it with EFB or AGM, never a basic flooded battery. We fit AGM, which handles start-stop at least as well.
For 2006–2021 Civics, we install the Duralast standard 51R. We do not currently offer a Platinum AGM in this size.
Whatever the table says, we replace AGM with AGM: if the battery in your car is labeled AGM, a flooded battery is not a substitute. Read AGM vs standard batteries.
Hybrid models
Hybrid versions of the Civic are matched separately from the VIN, since their 12-volt battery can be a different size and sit in a different place. See hybrid and EV 12-volt batteries.

Where is the battery on a Honda Civic?
Under the hood, in the engine bay. Civics through 2021 use the 51R, one of the smaller batteries we carry at about 9.4 inches long and 5.1 inches wide. From 2022 on, Civics use the larger H5 (47).
Can I use a group 51 battery instead of a 51R in my Civic?
No. A 51 is the same size, but its positive and negative terminals are on opposite sides, so the cables may not reach or could end up on the wrong post. Civics from 2006 to 2021 use 51R, except the Type R, which uses an H5.
