2018–2024 Equinoxs need an AGM battery. This is for models with auto stop/start and the 2.0-liter turbo. Rare 2018 models without stop/start, and the 1.6-liter diesel, are confirmed from the VIN. A standard flooded battery is not a substitute.

For 2010–2017 Equinoxs, a standard battery fits and AGM is an optional upgrade, worth it if the SUV sits for long stretches, makes a lot of short trips or runs accessories with the engine off.

Battery registration

Some late-model Equinoxs monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust charging as the battery ages. On those, the new battery may need a reset or registration so the SUV charges it correctly. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment.
