Confirmed from your VIN
Our table does not list a battery for these Explorer model years: 2025 or newer, and anything before 2011. Rather than guess, the technician confirms the exact battery from your VIN and sends the full price before dispatch.

Under the hood, in the engine bay. Accessories added for towing or work sometimes connect at the battery, and the technician moves them to the new one.
AGM and start-stop
2020–2024 Explorers need an AGM battery. This is for gas models. Hybrid and Police Interceptor models are confirmed from the VIN. A standard flooded battery is not a substitute.
For 2011–2019 Explorers, a standard battery fits and AGM is an optional upgrade, worth it if the SUV sits for long stretches, makes a lot of short trips or runs accessories with the engine off.
Whatever the table says, we replace AGM with AGM: if the battery in your SUV is labeled AGM, a flooded battery is not a substitute. Read AGM vs standard batteries.
Battery registration
Some late-model Explorers monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust charging as the battery ages. On those, the new battery may need a reset or registration so the SUV charges it correctly. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment.
Hybrid models
Hybrid versions of the Explorer are matched separately from the VIN, since their 12-volt battery can be a different size and sit in a different place. See hybrid and EV 12-volt batteries.

Why does my 2020 or newer Explorer need an AGM battery?
It came from the factory with an AGM H6, built for the electrical load and auto start-stop on this generation. A flooded battery would wear out early, so we replace AGM with AGM.
