AGM battery replacement for start-stop and late-model vehicles

Many vehicles built in the last decade use an absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery, especially those with auto start-stop. Putting a standard battery back in can cause warning lights, shut off start-stop and wear out early. We install Duralast Platinum AGM batteries matched to your VIN.

Which vehicles need an AGM battery

  • Vehicles with automatic start-stop, which restart the engine many times on every drive.
  • Vehicles that came from the factory with AGM, which is noted on the battery label or in the owner’s manual.
  • Many European models, plus newer pickups and SUVs with a lot of electronics.

If you are not sure, send us the VIN. We check what the vehicle was built with before we quote.

Battery registration and programming

Some vehicles track battery age and adjust how they charge it. On those, the new battery needs to be registered with the vehicle’s computer, or the charging system keeps treating it like the old, worn battery. We check whether your vehicle needs this from the VIN and tell you before the appointment.

Why AGM handles Texas driving well

AGM batteries are sealed and hold their electrolyte in glass mats, so they resist vibration and do not spill. They also take repeated deep discharges better than flooded batteries, which helps with stop-and-go traffic on I-635 or US-75, short school runs and cars that sit in the heat for days. Heat still shortens every battery’s life, so have yours tested before summer. See how long batteries last in Texas.

Common questions

Can I put a standard battery in a car that came with AGM?

We do not recommend it. Vehicles built with AGM, especially those with auto start-stop, charge and cycle the battery in a way a flooded battery cannot handle for long. You may see warning lights, start-stop may stop working and the battery can fail early. Replace AGM with AGM.

Does my car need the new battery registered?

Some vehicles, including many BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen models and some newer domestic vehicles, track battery age and adjust charging. On those, the new battery should be registered to the vehicle. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment whether it is needed, whether we can do it on site and what it costs.

How much does mobile battery replacement cost?

Your total has four parts: the battery’s retail price, a refundable core charge where it applies, installation labor for your vehicle and Texas sales tax. TotalPro batteries are listed from about $119.99, Duralast standard batteries from about $179.99 and Duralast Platinum AGM batteries from about $259.99 before core charge, labor and tax. Labor starts at $90 and depends on how hard the battery is to reach. The battery finder shows the battery price and the labor for your vehicle, and we send the confirmed total before we dispatch. See how pricing works.

What warranty comes with the battery?

The warranty depends on the exact battery. Duralast standard batteries are currently listed with a 2-year warranty, Duralast Platinum AGM batteries with 4 years and Duralast Heavy Duty commercial batteries with 1 year. We confirm the warranty terms for your specific battery with your quote and give you the paperwork after installation.

When do I pay?

After the battery is installed and the vehicle starts. Nothing is charged before the work is done.
