Battery replacement for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other European cars

Most late-model European cars use large AGM batteries in the H6 to H9 sizes, often mounted in the trunk, and many need the new battery registered to the car. We confirm all of it from your VIN before we quote.

Sizes European cars usually use

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Porsche and Land Rover models mostly use DIN-style batteries: H6 (48), H7 (94R), H8 (49) and H9 (95R). Start-stop models need AGM, and the new battery should match the factory capacity and type.

Battery registration

Many European cars have a battery management system that tracks the battery’s age and adjusts how hard the alternator charges it. Registering the new battery tells the car to start over. Without it, the car may keep charging the new battery as if it were old and worn, which can shorten its life. We check from your VIN whether registration is needed and tell you before the appointment how it will be handled.

Where the battery lives

On many of these cars the battery is in the trunk, under the floor panel or a side cover, and sometimes under a rear seat. Batteries mounted inside the car connect to a vent tube that must be reconnected after the swap. Tell us if you know where yours is; if not, the VIN tells us.

Common questions

Does my car need the new battery registered?

Some vehicles, including many BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen models and some newer domestic vehicles, track battery age and adjust charging. On those, the new battery should be registered to the vehicle. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment whether it is needed, whether we can do it on site and what it costs.

Can I put a standard battery in a car that came with AGM?

We do not recommend it. Vehicles built with AGM, especially those with auto start-stop, charge and cycle the battery in a way a flooded battery cannot handle for long. You may see warning lights, start-stop may stop working and the battery can fail early. Replace AGM with AGM.

How much does mobile battery replacement cost?

Your total has four parts: the battery’s retail price, a refundable core charge where it applies, installation labor for your vehicle and Texas sales tax. TotalPro batteries are listed from about $119.99, Duralast standard batteries from about $179.99 and Duralast Platinum AGM batteries from about $259.99 before core charge, labor and tax. Labor starts at $90 and depends on how hard the battery is to reach. The battery finder shows the battery price and the labor for your vehicle, and we send the confirmed total before we dispatch. See how pricing works.

When do I pay?

After the battery is installed and the vehicle starts. Nothing is charged before the work is done.

What warranty comes with the battery?

The warranty depends on the exact battery. Duralast standard batteries are currently listed with a 2-year warranty, Duralast Platinum AGM batteries with 4 years and Duralast Heavy Duty commercial batteries with 1 year. We confirm the warranty terms for your specific battery with your quote and give you the paperwork after installation.
