AGM and start-stop
2020–2025 Escapes need an AGM battery. This is for gas models. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models use a smaller battery, confirmed from the VIN. A standard flooded battery is not a substitute.
On 2017–2019 Escapes, some trims need AGM. 1.5- and 2.0-liter EcoBoost models with auto start-stop use an AGM H6; other models use 96R. If yours has auto start-stop, or the battery in it now is labeled AGM, it needs AGM again.
For 2013–2016 Escapes, we install the Duralast standard 96R. We do not currently offer a Platinum AGM in this size.
Whatever the table says, we replace AGM with AGM: if the battery in your SUV is labeled AGM, a flooded battery is not a substitute. Read AGM vs standard batteries.
Battery registration
Some late-model Escapes monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust charging as the battery ages. On those, the new battery may need a reset or registration so the SUV charges it correctly. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment.
Hybrid models
Hybrid versions of the Escape are matched separately from the VIN, since their 12-volt battery can be a different size and sit in a different place. See hybrid and EV 12-volt batteries.
