Other years

Confirmed from your VIN

Our table does not list a battery for these F-150 model years: 2026 or newer, and anything before 2009. Rather than guess, the technician confirms the exact battery from your VIN and sends the full price before dispatch.

Send my VIN

Where the battery is on the F-150

Under the hood, in a tray in the engine bay with a hold-down bracket over it. Trucks with add-on accessories such as a light bar or an inverter sometimes have extra leads on the battery terminals, and the technician moves each one to the new battery.

AGM and start-stop

2018–2025 F-150s need an AGM battery. Ford fitted an H6 or an H7 depending on how the truck was built. The 3.0-liter diesel and the PowerBoost hybrid are confirmed from the VIN. A standard flooded battery is not a substitute.

On 2015–2017 F-150s, some trims need AGM. Ford fitted an H6 or an H7 depending on how the truck was built. Trucks with auto start-stop need the AGM version. If yours has auto start-stop, or the battery in it now is labeled AGM, it needs AGM again.

For 2009–2014 F-150s, a standard battery fits and AGM is an optional upgrade, worth it if the truck sits for long stretches, makes a lot of short trips or runs accessories with the engine off.

Whatever the table says, we replace AGM with AGM: if the battery in your truck is labeled AGM, a flooded battery is not a substitute. Read AGM vs standard batteries.

Battery registration

Some late-model F-150s monitor the battery through a sensor on the negative cable and adjust charging as the battery ages. On those, the new battery may need a reset or registration so the truck charges it correctly. We check from your VIN and tell you before the appointment.

Hybrid models

Hybrid versions of the F-150 are matched separately from the VIN, since their 12-volt battery can be a different size and sit in a different place. See hybrid and EV 12-volt batteries.

Auto start-stop on the F-150

If your F-150 shuts the engine off at red lights and restarts when you lift off the brake, it has auto start-stop. Ford added it to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost for 2015 and made it standard on every engine for 2018, and those trucks need an AGM battery because a flooded one wears out quickly under that much cycling. From 2015 on, Ford fitted either an H6 (48) or an H7 (94R) depending on how the truck was built, so the technician checks the label on your battery or the VIN. Trucks from 2009 to 2014 use a group 65, and AGM is an upgrade worth considering if you run lights, a fridge or tools off the battery.

How the visit works
